The Corvias sponsored Yard of the Month program will host a Holiday Yard of the Month!
The Yard of the Month Program will reward those who make a special effort to improve their yard and beautify their home, while remaining in compliance with housing and post regulations. Holiday decorations will be considered, though not mandatory. One winner will be named per community in December. Each Yard of the Month winner will receive a recognition letter from the Fort Riley Garrison Commander, a Yard of the Month sign to be displayed in front of the home, and a gift certificate.
Judging and Rules:
Judging will be conducted the first week in December. To be eligible to participate, yards must be in full compliance with requirements set forth in the Corvias Military Living Resident Responsibility Guide.
Winners will be notified in the same month as recognition. A resident may win only once during the 2017 Yard of the Month program, from summer until winter.
Winter weather in Kansas can be unpredictable at times and we want residents to be informed and prepared for the upcoming winter months.
The time to prepare for winter weather is here. To protect your belongings this winter, following these simple steps:
Disconnect hose from all outside water faucets now to help avoid frozen pipes.
If you plan on leaving your home for an extended period of time, keep the heat on to prevent pipes from freezing. Leave your thermostat set between 60 and 65 degrees. We encourage you to consider registering your home for House Watch with your Community Office. When you register your home, the Community team will make a routine check of the property and can take appropriate actions as needed.
Following a snow or ice storm, a Corvias contractor will clear or treat all streets, public sidewalks and parking lots in each community. A system is in place to clear main roads first to allow emergency vehicle access and then proceed to clear all residential streets.
We request your patience and help during the times roadways are being treated by limiting travel. Please park vehicles only in approved parking areas and avoid blocking sidewalks.
Residents are encouraged to keep their private porch, sidewalk and driveway free of snow and ice to avoid slips and falls. Complimentary traction control material will be available at your Community Office.
We understand that lawn care is an important issue and we take our responsibility of providing this service to you very seriously. After careful consideration, Corvias is pleased to welcome back Munie Greencare as our primary landscape vendor to perform routine lawn maintenance and turf care throughout the communities at Fort Riley. Munie is very familiar with the Fort Riley area and is fully equipped to manage our large installation with efficiency and care.
Munie will perform the same lawn care services you are used to such as mowing, edging and landscaping. Additionally, Munie will assume responsibility of snow removal operations this winter.
The transition from Mainscape to Munie is already underway and will be complete by December 2017. Weekly mow days for each community will not change (refer to your community calendar for your mow day); if future changes are necessary, adequate notice and communication will be provided.
FALL FERTILIZER TREATMENTS
Also included in your lawn care service is a fall fertilizer/weed control treatment. Munie will be applying this treatment to landscape beds in November/December, as weather conditions allow. Check the schedule below to see when your home will be treated.
Treatment areas include landscaping beds of all homes as well as community entry areas. Following the application, please allow approximately 4 hours for the treatment to dry before allowing children and pets on the treated areas. The product labels and material safety data sheets will be available at your Community Office for further information on the products used.

Stress can ruin your holidays, especially if it involves money. Holiday season should be the most wonderful time of the year. Here are a few tips to keep your holiday joyful and lessen your financial stress.
It’s so important to create a holiday budget. Creating a holiday budget is the best way to prevent overspending and lessen the stress through the holidays. Taking time to plan your gifts and organize holiday expenses instead of random and last-minute spending, will save money and lessen stress around over spending.
Cut spending in other areas. Eliminate spending on meals out, movie theater visits, and non-gift related shopping trips. You can also tighten up spending by lowering extra spending on things like morning coffee, lunch out, or even smoking.
Budget your time, budgeting your time can end up saving you tons of money. Allow enough time for all your holiday preparations.
Make peace with your limitations, you must prioritize. We will want to celebrate every holiday to the max and attend every party and send cards and gifts to everyone we know, we can’t. Acknowledging this prior to the holiday season and planning ahead as to what’s most important to you and be okay with letting go of some of the stuff at the bottom of the list.
Holidays are for food, fun and family. Remember that money can’t buy the memories of time spent and memories shared so enjoy each other. Happy Holidays!
Applications for the 2018 Corvias Foundation scholarships for children and spouses of active-duty service members are available after November 1 at corviasfoundation.org.
How can you save energy when cooking your Thanksgiving dinner? Don’t open the oven door while you’re cooking! Instead, turn on the oven light and check on your food through the oven window.
